| TurboSFV v11.20 - Improved scaling |
Notes to TurboSFV v11.20:
Scaling means, that for a specific monitor, the size of the displayed items can be changed in general and all items appear in a calculated new size, which depends on the scaling factor. For a example, a scaling factor of 200% means, that
all items on the screen will be enlarged to the double size. On the other hand, in this case, only the half of information can be displayed, so that changing the scaling factor mainly makes sense for additional screens with a different
resolution.
In best case, enlarged objects are still looking sharp: In this example, a text with a font size of 10 pt should then look like a text with a font size of 20 pt, and not like a manually enlarged, blurry looking font. Same applies to
controls like list boxes, radio groups or other buttons with text and graphics, but also to images in applications or to the layout of menus, where entries in the menu have a specific text, aligned with an
icon.
Even more complicated, if the scaling changes, while the application is running: All changes regarding the size of displayed objects must be adjusted on the fly in a way, that all together is shown larger or smaller, but still sharp. Here
TurboSFV failed in previous versions: Some objects weren't scaled properly, so that for example , icons were to big or too small, and not in line with the scaled text. If the application was closed and opened again, everything was fine
again
Strange things can also happen with the positioning of application windows on the screen: If an application saves the position and the size of a window, then it must consider any changes regarding the scaling factor, but also regarding the
screen resolution, before it calculates the new size and position. Otherwise it can happen, that an application window disappears from the screen. Similar, the position and size of the taskbar must be taken into account, so that the
application window is placed properly. Also in this area, TurboSFV has seen with quite some
improvements.
If you like to add a comment regarding this new version, then this is the right place.
